The Former NatWest bank on Castle Street is to be converted into a 92-bedroom hotel under plans lodged by bar and leisure operator JSM Company Group.

The rooms would be created by subdividing empty office space on the upper floors of the Liverpool building.

In addition, a two-storey rooftop extension is to be added to the rear of the grade two star-listed property.

“The front elevation of the development, facing Castle Street, will mostly remain the same,” according to Wroot Architects.

“This will uphold the strong character of this iconic area of Liverpool.”

The Original bank building was completed in 1902. It was designed by Norman Shaw for Parr’s Bank. Natwest took over the building but vacated it in 2017, relocating to a new branch on the corner of Church Street and Paradise Street.

The Developer’s plans aim to “respond to the continues evolution of the area”, which comprises a high number of bars and restaurants including Gino D’Acampo, Rudy’s Pizza and Mowgli.

JSM Company Group is headed up by Jamie Motlagh, who also runs Pub Invest Group, which operates bars including McCooley’s and Rubber Soul.
